    A Christmas Cookie

There is something so very personal about Christmas cookies. Whether it is a recipe passed down through generations or simply the time spent baking and enjoying them with family, they are a part of the tradition. For the continental soldiers, a Gingerbread baker would be their lifeline in a hard winter.

We are honored to offer a limited quantity of these traditional gingerbread cookies made on exact reproductions of Christopher Ludwick's personal molds and produced on the same city block in Philadelphia as his shop.

    Limited Stock Gingerbread Cookie $18

Christopher Ludwick is a larger than life character who in 1777 was appointed Superintendent of Baker and Director of Baking in the Grand Army of the United States. A true patriot, and advocate for freedom, and foremost a gingerbread baker, Ludwick refused a commission and bridged financial gaps out of his own pocket to make sure the soldiers could be fed.

Each cookie measures 7" by 4" and comes individually packaged in a blue giftbox with a history of the cookie and the bakery.

To share with young historians, join Payton in reading Gingerbread For Liberty . In this video we read a children's picture book outlining the contribution of Ludwick and his gingerbread. This is a great video to sit with young learners and watch while sharing one of these cookies.

For a more in depth look at this American legend, watch our video The Gingerbread Man Who Saved America. Here we go through the Ludwick's journey as a veteran in three different wars and conflicts, an entrepreneur, a patriot, and a man.
